Adeleke, a labour leader from Lagos State, reportedly took ill soon after arriving Switzerland and was taken to an hospital in France where he died.
The tragic development was confirmed by an official of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), who was among labour leaders that visited him at a hospital in France, where he had been rushed after suddenly collapsing during the conference.
The NLC official described the deceased as a committed unionist whose dedication to the welfare of workers remained unwavering until his final moments.
“It is with deep sorrow that the Nigeria Labour Congress and the entire trade union movement in Nigeria, especially the 2026 Workers’ Delegates to the International Labour Conference, announce the passing of Comrade Domingo Michael Adeleke, who died Monday in Geneva after a brief illness while attending the 114th Session of the International Labour Conference,” the official said.
The late labour leader was a member of the Nigeria Civil Service Union (NCSU) and served as Chairman of the Lagos State Joint Negotiating Council, where he played a key role in advancing workers’ welfare and promoting industrial harmony.
NLC leaders are planning to bring his remains home.
