THE International Human Rights Commission – Relief Fund Trust (IHRC-RFT) has pledged to pursue all legal means to ensure justice for the victim of  mob action, late Malama Ummulkhair of Mararaban Jos.

The pledge was made by the Kaduna State Director of IHRC-RFT, Amb. Musa Bawa, during a condolence visit to the family of the deceased on Tuesday.

Bawa expressed concern over the circumstances surrounding the killing and condemned all forms of mob justice.

He reminded members of the public that under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, every individual is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of competent jurisdiction.

According to him, the right to life remains fundamental and no person or group has the authority to take the law into their own hands.

He assured the family that the organisation would explore all lawful avenues to ensure accountability and justice.

Bawa also called on the Nigeria Police Force to carry out a thorough and transparent investigation into the incident and bring those responsible to justice.

He further appealed to community and religious leaders to continue promoting peace, lawful conduct and respect for human dignity.

Responding, the husband of the deceased, Aliyu Mohammed thanked the organisation for the condolence visit and solidarity shown to the family.

He appealed to the commission to intensify efforts toward ensuring justice for his late wife.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the visit formed part of the organisation’s efforts to sympathise with the bereaved family and advocate adherence to due process and the rule of law. (NAN)
