A fire outbreak on Saturday night destroyed four vehicles and a container at a mechanic workshop on Togunde Street in the Akingbade area along Old Ife Road, Egbeda Local Government Area of Oyo State.
The incident occurred at about 9:16 p.m. and was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Fire Services Agency and Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Moroof Akinwande.
According to the statement, the fire was caused by sparks from an engine compartment, which ignited combustible materials within the workshop.
The agency said firefighters were mobilised to the scene following a distress call from a resident, identified as Mr Damola. The emergency response team, led by Chief Fire Superintendent Adekola, arrived to find the container and four vehicles already engulfed in flames.
Firefighters eventually brought the blaze under control and prevented it from spreading to nearby buildings, with support from the Federal Fire Service, Ibadan Command.
Akinwande said no lives were lost in the incident, although properties worth millions of naira were destroyed.
He urged workshop owners and motorists to prioritise fire safety by installing fire extinguishers and adopting preventive measures to enable quick response to emergencies.
