The family of late veteran Nollywood actor, Adekola Oyewo, has released the funeral arrangements for the deceased actor.
NPO Reported that Oyewo passed away at the age of 80 on the 12th of June 2026.
His demise had thrown the Nollywood industry into another state of mourning while also attracting tribute from several public figures, including politicians.
The Oyewo, on Saturday, released a obsequies detailing the arrangements for his funeral.
As contained in the graphics shared on X, the funeral rite of the late legendary actor is billed to kick off with Wake Keeping and Service of Songs which is slated to hold on Wednesday 5th of August at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Igboya, Ile-Ife, Osun State.
This will be followed by Commendation Mass which will be held on Thursday 6th of August between 10am to 12am at the same church.
In the same day Artistes Night, Tributes, and Cultural Display is slated to hold from 3:00pm to 8:00pm at the Oduduwa Hall at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife.
This will run consecutively with the exhibition of the late Oyewo’s works and pictures which starts from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at The Pits Theatre, African Studies Building, OAU.
The funeral arrangement will continue on Friday 7th of August with Motorcade to Oba-Ile with the corpse by 7:00am.
This will be followed with the lying in state at Ese Ola’s compound by 9:45am while a Requiem Mass will be held at the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Oba Ile by 11:00am.
Interment will be held the same day by 12:45pm at the Labaluyege Villa, Oba Ile.
While the attendance at the interment is strictly restricted to only family members, the funeral will be concluded with a general reception the same day at Aderounmu Grammar School Field, Oba-Ile,from 1:00pm.
Born on March 27, 1946, in Oba-Ile, Osun State, Kola Oyewo began his acting career in 1964 with the legendary Oyin Adejobi Theatre Group before becoming one of the most recognizable faces in Nigerian theatre and film.
He earned widespread acclaim for his portrayal of Odewale in Ola Rotimi’s celebrated play, The Gods Are Not to Blame, a role that cemented his status as a leading figure in African theatre.
Beyond the stage, he featured prominently in several notable productions including Saworoide, Sango, Koseegbe, Super Story, and numerous Yoruba-language films that contributed to the growth of Nigeria’s movie industry.
A distinguished academic, Oyewo held a doctorate degree in Drama from the University of Ibadan and taught at several institutions, including Obafemi Awolowo University, Redeemer’s University, and Elizade University.
Through his teaching and mentorship, he helped shape generations of actors, playwrights, and scholars across Nigeria.
Only months ago, the late Oyewo celebrated his 80th birthday and received tributes from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who described him as a national treasure and a worthy ambassador of Yoruba theatre and Nigerian storytelling.
