The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Edo State Chapter, has congratulated Edo Queens Football Club on their historic emergence as champions of the 2026 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership.
In a congratulatory message signed by the Edo SWAN Chairman, Comrade Kehinde Osagiede, the association commended the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Desmond Amadin Enabulele, the club’s management, coaching crew, players, and supporters for their contributions to the remarkable achievement.
SWAN described the triumph as another glorious chapter in the history of Edo Queens, following the club’s previous title success in 2024, noting that the victory was a reward for resilience, discipline, hard work, and commitment to excellence.
The association praised the team’s journey to the championship, highlighting their ability to recover from an opening-day defeat in the Super Six competition to produce outstanding performances that eventually secured the title.
According to SWAN Edo, Edo Queens’ comeback reflected the true spirit of champions, proving that perseverance, self-belief, and determination remain key ingredients for success in sports.
The sports writers also acknowledged the role of visionary leadership, effective management, and sustained investment in sports development, saying Edo Queens’ achievement demonstrates the potential of Nigerian clubs to excel when provided with the right support structure.
The association noted that the victory has brought pride and excitement to the people of Edo State across the three senatorial districts and supporters of the club worldwide.
SWAN Edo further commended the Edo State Sports Commission under the leadership of Hon. Desmond Amadin Enabulele, as well as the management, technical crew, and backroom staff of the club for their dedication towards the growth of women’s football in the state.
The association urged stakeholders to build on the success by strengthening the team ahead of the WAFU-B qualifiers and the CAF Women’s Champions League campaign, expressing confidence that Edo Queens have the quality to achieve greater feats on the continental stage.
SWAN Edo also called for proper recognition and celebration of the players, whose sacrifices and professionalism helped place Edo State at the forefront of women’s football in Nigeria.
The association concluded by wishing Edo Queens continued success and charged the team to keep making Edo State and Nigeria proud.
