Officers of the Delta State Police Command have arrested suspected fraudsters found in possession of fake 1,600 US dollar bills in a Delta community.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the Command, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a signed statement made available to journalists in Warri on Thursday.
Edafe stated, “On June 9, 2026, operatives of the Special Anti-Kidn@pping Unit, acting on credible intelligence, commenced surveillance on a five-man syndicate reportedly involved in defrauding unsuspecting members of the public using counterfeit United States dollar bills while operating in a red unregistered Mercedes-Benz GLK SUV.
“The intelligence-driven operation led to the arrest of four suspects identified as Joshua Nwaosa, Daniel Arhewe, Prince Chukwuma, and John Egwuba along Nnebisi Road, Asaba.
During preliminary interrogation, the suspects confessed to operating from a hideout in Asaba.
A follow-up operation was immediately conducted at the location, where operatives recovered 1,600 counterfeit United States dollar notes and military camouflage concealed within the premises.”
The police spokesman confirmed that an investigation is ongoing to unravel the full scope of the syndicate’s activities.
In a separate operation on Tuesday, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit stormed Owaliru and Alihame communities in Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State, where two female suspects were apprehended.
The suspects, identified as Ifeoma Egbule, 36, and Anayeokwu Florence, 51, were arrested in possession of substantial quantities of suspected illicit substances, including GH Gold, Colorado, Cannabis and Canadian Loud.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the suspects were actively involved in the distribution of the prohibited substances within the area, while efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the drug distribution network.
In a swift response, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operatives for their professionalism, diligence and commitment to duty, reiterating the command’s resolve to sustain intelligence-led operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and ensuring the safety and security of all residents of Delta State.
