Five staff members of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, COOU, Igbariam, in Anambra State, have been dismissed by the institution’s Governing Council over gross misconduct.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Dr. Harrison Madubueze, who explained that the decision was reached at the Council’s 122nd meeting held on Friday, June 12, 2026.
According to him, those affected include Prof. C. C. Nwabachili, immediate past Dean of the Faculty of Law, and Prof. Chike Osegbue of the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social Sciences.
Others on the list are Dr. I. H. Iheukwumere and Mr. Emeka Nwabunnia, both of the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Uli Campus, who were dismissed over allegations bordering on sexual abuse, harassment, intimidation, extortion, and other ethical breaches.
Also named was Mrs. Ifeoma Kakulu, a Principal Assistant Registrar who served as Examination Officer for the Faculty of Law in the Exams Unit, Igbariam Campus, at the time the offence was committed.
The statement noted that the Council reiterated its commitment to discipline and integrity, warning that any conduct capable of damaging the university’s reputation would attract severe consequences.
It further assured that the institution would maintain a safe, accountable, and forward-looking environment, in line with its vision of positioning itself as a university built for both the present and the future.
