Human rights activist and African Action Congress presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, successfully resisted attempts by security officials to transport him to prison in a Black Maria on Monday.
Following a remand order issued at the Federal High Court in Abuja, Sowore confronted operatives of the Department of State Services, declaring that they could not force him into the secure detention vehicle.
He insisted on being transported in a regular vehicle instead, and security officials eventually conceded, placing him into a Toyota Hilux vehicle to convey him to the Kuje Correctional Centre.
The standoff followed a chaotic scene inside the courtroom where heavily armed and fully kitted security operatives violently moved him out of the court hall.
Presiding Justice Mohammed Umar had ordered the activist to be remanded in custody until Wednesday, June 24. The remand was triggered by the revocation of Sowore’s bail over a single court absence, which his defense team argued was actually due to necessary legal consultations with his new lead counsel, Olumide-Fusika, SAN.
The ongoing trial stems from allegations of cyberstalking and criminal defamation filed against Sowore after he labeled President Bola Tinubu a criminal in an August 2025 social media post.
