The incident reportedly occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Friday, when the attackers stormed the community, shooting sporadically to scare residents and force them into hiding.
According to eyewitness accounts, the gunmen damaged two residential buildings before whisking away the victim, identified as Master Oluwatobi Olaosebikan, the son of a pastor, Isaac Olaosebikan.
A resident said the gunfire caused panic, forcing many people to flee their homes into nearby communities for safety.
Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Abayomi, said a coordinated search-and-rescue operation had been launched to secure the release of the abducted child and apprehend the attackers.
He stated that the command received reports of the attack in the early hours of Friday, noting that the assailants invaded Ugbosi Quarters in Idogun, firing shots and causing widespread panic.
According to him, the attackers forced their way into the home of the victim’s father, who escaped into a nearby bush but was unable to rescue his son, who was taken away by the gunmen.
The police spokesperson added that another resident also reported damage to his property during the attack but escaped unharmed.
Security operatives, including personnel of the Nigeria Police Force and the Amotekun Corps, have since been deployed to comb surrounding forests and possible escape routes in a bid to rescue the victim.
Ondo State Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, has ordered intensified intelligence and tactical operations to ensure the safe return of the child and the arrest of those responsible.
The police assured residents that investigations are ongoing and urged the public to remain calm while providing useful information that could aid rescue efforts.
