Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has said that despite how poorly the President Bola Tinubu-led administration has performed, it is still more desirable than electing former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar in 2027.
He made this known on Monday whilst appearing as a guest on the Channels Television programme, Politics Today.
President Tinubu is vying for re-election in 2027 on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He faces major challenges from African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku, and his Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) counterpart, Peter Obi.
Discussing the upcoming election, Lawal insisted that Tinubu would still be an “excellent President” compared to what Atiku would plunge Nigeria into.

“I said it that if it must be, therefore, a choice between Atiku and Tinubu, I believe that Bola Tinubu’s presidency, as bad as it is now, on a comparative level, Tinubu would be an excellent President compared to what Atiku would plunge us into,” he said during the interview.
The former SGF went on to describe the incumbent president as the lesser evil, adding that “in the satanic world, devils have categories”.
Lawal added, “When you are between the devil and the devil and you must go somewhere, what you therefore do is look for a lesser devil, because even in the satanic world, devils have categories.”
Prior to this development, Lawal had heavily criticised Atiku when he left the ADC, alleging that the primary that produced the former VP was massively rigged.
