Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has sworn in Justice Christine Ende as a judge of the State High Court, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to strengthening the judiciary, promoting the rule of law and advancing women’s participation in leadership.
The swearing-in ceremony took place on Wednesday in Makurdi.
Speaking at the event, Governor Alia described the judiciary as the last hope of the common man and commended its critical role in sustaining justice, democracy and public confidence in government institutions.
He said Justice Ende’s appointment was in recognition of her distinguished career spanning more than three decades in legal practice, judicial administration, human rights advocacy and public service.
According to the governor, the new judge’s professional experience includes service with African Bank Plc, the National Human Rights Commission and the Federal High Court, where she served as Deputy Chief Registrar and Admiralty Marshal.
Alia said the experience had adequately prepared her for the responsibilities of the bench.
He disclosed that her appointment increased the number of judges in the Benue State judiciary from 32 to 33, while the number of female judges rose from 13 to 14.
The governor said the development reflected his administration’s commitment to inclusivity, equal opportunity and the advancement of women in leadership.
He reiterated his administration’s “He for She” philosophy, stressing that sustainable development can only be achieved when women are given equal opportunity to contribute their talents, skills and expertise to nation-building.
Alia charged Justice Ende to uphold the Constitution and discharge her duties with integrity, courage, independence and fairness.
He also commended the National Judicial Council, the Benue State Judicial Service Commission and the leadership of the state judiciary for their roles in the appointment process.
The governor assured that his administration would continue to support the judiciary in strengthening justice delivery and promoting the rule of law across the state.
In her acceptance speech, Justice Ende expressed gratitude to God for the grace, strength and guidance that sustained her journey to the bench.
She also appreciated Governor Alia for his moral, spiritual and unwavering support, which she said contributed significantly to her elevation.
Justice Ende thanked the Chief Judge of Benue State, Justice Maurice Ikpambase; the President of the Customary Court of Appeal, Justice Cosmos Idye; members of the National Judicial Council; and the Benue State Judicial Service Commission for the confidence reposed in her.
She also paid tribute to her late parents, acknowledging their sacrifices, prayers, discipline and commitment, which she said laid the foundation for her academic and professional success.
The new judge pledged to uphold the principles of justice, fairness, integrity and nation-building in the discharge of her duties.
