AGN confirms actor Benedict Johnson’s illness, says surgery needed

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has confirmed that Benedict Johnson, veteran Nollywood actor is currently battling a serious health condition that requires surgical intervention.

Abubakar Yakubu, the Guild’s President disclosed this in a statement on Saturday while responding to growing public concern triggered by a viral video showing the actor undergoing an MRI scan.

Yakubu confirmed that Johnson is receiving medical care and assured that the guild is fully involved in ensuring he gets the needed treatment.

“Yes, he is ill. Actually, he is seriously ill and requires surgery. The guild is aware and we are lending all our full support to ensure that he undergoes this surgery,” he said.

The development comes amid widespread speculation on social media following the circulation of the medical footage, which raised concerns about the actor’s condition.

Benedict Johnson, a Mass Communication graduate of Abia State University, Uturu, began his acting career with the landmark Nollywood production Living in Bondage and later featured in Stolen Bible. He also had a brief stint in music before fully transitioning into acting.

In recent years, the actor had spoken about challenges in his career, including a period in which he reportedly went several years without securing acting roles, leading him to relocate to Abuja in search of spiritual and professional renewal.

The AGN has assured fans that updates will be provided as his treatment progresses.
