HUMAN rights activist, Vincent Ezekwueme, has commenced a 14-day hunger strike over the abduction of teachers, pupils and students in Oyo State.
Ezekwueme, Chairman of the Civil Liberties Organization (CLO), Anambra State Branch, announced the action while addressing journalists in Awka.
He said the hunger strike was in solidarity with the abducted victims and their families enduring pain, uncertainty and trauma.
According to him, the protest aims to draw attention to the plight of the victims and demand their unconditional release.
He also urged security agencies and governments at all levels to intensify efforts to secure the safe return of those abducted.
Ezekwueme appealed to Nigerians to uphold the sanctity of human life and reject acts of violence and criminality.
He called on the abductors to repent and release the victims without conditions.
The activist urged governments to strengthen the nation’s security architecture and improve protection around schools.
He recalled embarking on similar hunger strikes during the June 12 political crisis and the abductions of Chibok and Dapchi schoolchildren.
The CLO chairman appealed to the Federal Government, Oyo and Kwara governments, and security agencies to prioritise the rescue of the victims.
He said restoring public confidence in school safety remained critical to national development and educational progress.
