Atiku, Amaechi and businessman Mohammed Hayatu-Deen sought the ADC’s presidential ticket for the 2027 election. Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen rejected the outcome, alleging it was rigged.

However, in his acceptance speech, Atiku appealed to Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen to work with him to defeat the All Progressives Congress.

Shedding light on his meeting with Amaechi on Thursday, Atiku said it went beyond social exchanges as they both engaged in frank discussions about the state of the nation and the responsibility of patriotic citizens to help steer the country away from crisis.

“Beyond the warmth and camaraderie, we had deep and honest conversations about the troubling state of our nation, the growing economic pain, insecurity, and the urgent responsibility on patriotic Nigerians to continue engaging in the search for solutions that can rescue our country from drift and despair,” Atiku wrote on X.

He also revealed that he congratulated Amaechi on his birthday during the visit, while joking about Arsenal’s recent success.

“I also felicitated with him on the occasion of his birthday yesterday and teased that Arsenal’s historic triumph could not have arrived at a better time,” he said.

Atiku further shared a lighter moment from the visit, referencing Amaechi’s famed Rivers hospitality.

“In true Rivers hospitality, he apologised for not having enough time to prepare Fisherman Soup, a delicacy I have now been promised on our return for the second leg,” he added.
