Violence broke out on Saturday during the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election in Mushin Local Government Area of Lagos State, forcing party members and supporters to flee the venue.
The incident occurred before the commencement of voting for the party’s House of Representatives primary for Mushin Constituency II.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that tension remained high around the venue as of the time of filing this report, while the exercise had yet to commence.
PrimeTimes Nigeria learnt that there was confusion after disagreements erupted among supporters of some aspirants contesting for the ticket.
The situation reportedly triggered a stampede as delegates and party faithful hurriedly left the area.
Among the leading aspirants in the contest were the incumbent lawmaker, Oluwatoyin Fayinka, who is seeking re-election, and Seye Oladejo.
Other aspirants were also participating in the exercise.
Several party members expressed concern over the violence and urged APC leaders and security agencies to ensure a peaceful and transparent primary.
Party officials had yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report. The APC is conducting primaries across the country ahead of the 2027 general elections.
