In her resignation letter, Gabbard thanked Trump for trusting her with the responsibility of leading the Office of the Director of National Intelligence over the past one and a half years.

In her letter, Gabbard explained that her husband’s health condition played the biggest role in her decision to step down from the high-profile position. Reports said her husband was recently diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone cancer and will require major support and care in the coming months.

Gabbard reportedly wrote that she could not continue in such a demanding public role while also being fully present for her family during this difficult period. She described her husband as someone who had stood beside her throughout her political journey and personal challenges.

Meeting With Donald Trump

Fox News Digital reported that Gabbard personally informed President Trump during a meeting in the Oval Office on Friday. Sources said the conversation was respectful and focused on ensuring a smooth transition before her official departure at the end of June.

Gabbard also assured the administration that she would help maintain continuity within the intelligence office during the transition process.

What Happens Next

Her resignation marks a major change within the Trump administration’s national security team. Gabbard had been serving as Director of National Intelligence for around 18 months and had overseen several intelligence and transparency initiatives during her tenure.

The White House has not yet announced who will replace her after June 30.
