Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have killed 12 suspected ISWAP/Boko Haram terrorists who attempted to attack a military location in Kirawa along the Nigeria-Cameroon border.
The attack occurred in the early hours of May 22 during operations conducted under Operation DESERT SANITY and SIEGE OPERATIONS.
A statement by Sani Uba said the terrorists attempted to infiltrate positions occupied by troops of the 153 Task Force Battalion and other security personnel.
According to the statement, the troops, supported by members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, detected the movement early and responded with heavy firepower.
The terrorists were said to have retreated towards the Cameroon axis after suffering heavy casualties.
The military disclosed that surveillance assets and air platforms of the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI provided support during the operation.
Recovered items included AK-47 rifles, rocket-propelled grenade systems, ammunition and a PKT machine gun.
The statement added that several terrorists escaped with gunshot wounds, while troops had continued exploitation operations to track fleeing insurgents.
The Joint Task Force assured residents of continued military operations against terrorist groups across the North-East.
Military authorities also commended the troops for their gallantry and professionalism during the encounter.
