Former Super Eagles and Chievo Verona forward Obinna Nsofor has revealed the major step Victor Osimhen must take to become one of Europe’s elite strikers, Soccernet.ng reports.

Nigerian forward Osimhen has earned his status as one of the most prolific goalscorers in European football in recent years, given his impressive form for both club and country.

The 27-year-old first rose to prominence at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup, where he helped Nigeria to a fifth title and finished as the tournament’s top scorer with 10 goals, which still stands as the most goals scored in a single edition of the competition.

At club level, Osimhen impressed during his time at Lille in the French Ligue 1 before sealing a move to Napoli, where he played a key role in helping the club win the Serie A title for the first time in 33 years during the 2022–23 season. He also finished as the league’s top scorer that campaign and later placed eighth in the Ballon d’Or rankings.

The Nigerian striker has since moved to Galatasaray, where he has scored a remarkable 59 goals in 74 appearances across two seasons. He has also helped the Turkish giants win three trophies, including a fourth consecutive league title, which they secured last weekend when he scored twice in a 4-2 victory over Antalyaspor.

Obinna Nsofor advises Osimhen to leave Galatasaray

Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen has been heavily linked with a move away from Galatasaray ahead of the summer transfer window, with several top European clubs monitoring his situation.

Interest remains strong from the Premier League, with Arsenal and Manchester United both weighing up the option of a move heading into the transfrr window. Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona have also been linked with the Super Eagles forward as they hope to strengthen their attack ahead of nexts season.

As speculation over Osimhen’s future continues to grow, former Chievo Verona striker Obinna Nsofor believes his compatriot must make the right move this summer if he truly wants to reach the very top of European football.

While acknowledging Galatasaray’s status as a big club, the former Olympic silver medalist believes winning a major European trophy is the only thing missing from Osimhen’s career and feels he would have a better chance of achieving that elsewhere.

“Victor Osimhen has done enough at Galatasaray. If he truly wants to become the best striker in the world, then he must move to a club that can compete seriously for the UEFA Champions League. Right now, the only thing separating him from the very top is winning at the highest level in Europe”, the former Super Eagles striker said on Brila as revealed on X.

“Galatasaray is a big club, nobody can deny that, but when you talk about clubs expected to win the UEFA Champions League, they are not among the favourites. Osimhen is already at the level where he should be competing with the very best strikers every single season.”

Where will Osimhen end up?

Just like in 2024 when he was expected to leave Napoli, Victor Osimhen has once again become one of the biggest names in the transfer market, with uncertainty surrounding his long-term future at Galatasaray.

A move to Chelsea broke down during that time, while the striker also rejected a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia before eventually choosing the Turkish champions.

Now at 27 and entering the prime years of his career, a move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs appears increasingly likely. Osimhen has already enjoyed success in Turkey and the only major trophy still missing from his collection is an European title.

The Super Eagles striker has continued to attract interest from several top clubs, including Real Madrid, with former Nigerian forward John Utaka also advising him to consider a move to the Spanish giants if the opportunity arises.

Barcelona, Arsenal and Manchester United are also among the clubs interested, although it remains unclear which side will eventually secure his signature.

Meanwhile, Galatasaray are reluctant to lose their star striker and are hoping to recover almost double the €75 million they paid to sign him permanently from Napoli last summer.

With the transfer window set to open soon, Osimhen’s future is expected to become clearer. For now, neither the Nigerian forward nor Galatasaray have made a final decision on his next move.
