Some electricity consumers in the South-east are experiencing a temporary service disruption following the shutdown of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company’s vending platforms.
EEDC supplies electricity across Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo states through its subsidiary distribution companies. The company’s spokesperson, Emeka Ezeh, said in a statement on Friday that the shutdown became necessary because of a major system upgrade which began the same day.
According to him, the vending platform was disabled for postpaid customers from 6:00 p.m. on Friday, while prepaid customers were scheduled to be affected from 12:00 a.m. on Saturday.
He explained that during the upgrade, customers would not be able to make payments, recharge prepaid meters or buy energy tokens.
“Normal services are expected to resume by 12:00 a.m. on Sunday, 24th May 2026,” Ezeh said.
The spokesperson said the upgrade is part of EEDC’s efforts to improve its technology, strengthen operational efficiency and provide customers with a smoother service experience. He added that the temporary shutdown would affect customers under EEDC’s subsidiary distribution companies across the region.
Before the recent restructuring, EEDC directly handled electricity distribution across the South-east. However, its subsidiaries have now taken over distribution operations in the five states.
Mainpower now distributes electricity in Enugu State, FirstPower operates in Anambra, while TransPower serves Imo State. NewEra is responsible for power distribution in Abia State, while EastLand handles distribution in Ebonyi State.
