The Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex in Lagos has banned all Point of Sale (PoS) operations within its premises over concerns that the activities could encourage corruption and compromise professional conduct among officers.
The directive was announced by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the FCID Annex, Simeon Akpanudom, during a strategic meeting and lecture session held with sectional heads and senior officers at the command headquarters on Thursday.
The decision was later confirmed in a statement issued by the FCID Annex spokesperson, Aminat Mayegun.
According to the police authorities, the move forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen discipline, accountability and professionalism within the command. The order is also in line with reforms and operational standards being promoted by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.
Akpanudom said PoS activities within police facilities were inconsistent with standard security procedures and ethical policing practices. He warned that allowing such transactions around investigation offices and operational units could open the door to unethical conduct and damage public confidence in the force.
The AIG stressed that officers must remain professional in their dealings with members of the public and avoid actions capable of creating suspicion or undermining transparency in police operations.
He also directed sectional heads to ensure that intelligence reports and investigation briefs are properly verified before submission for further action. According to him, supervisory officers must take greater responsibility in monitoring personnel under their command to reduce misconduct and ensure compliance with operational guidelines.
During the meeting, the police boss reportedly warned officers against indiscriminate involvement in land-related disputes, insisting that such matters must be handled strictly within the limits of the law and established investigative procedures.
Akpanudom further cautioned personnel against acts capable of tarnishing the image of the Nigeria Police Force. He urged officers to respect the chain of command, maintain discipline and uphold integrity while carrying out their duties.
He maintained that any officer found engaging in unprofessional conduct would face disciplinary measures where necessary.
