Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has warned commissioners and special advisers in his administration to improve their performance or face the consequences.

PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that the governor issued the warning during the Hawan Nasarawa Sallah homage in Kano.

This was disclosed in a statement released by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

Yusuf said political appointees must justify the confidence reposed in them by delivering results and remaining committed to good governance.

He said accountability and measurable achievements remained major priorities of his administration.

“Any appointee who fails to perform up to expectations should either improve or be ready to vacate office,” the governor said.

He added that his administration would not tolerate negligence, poor performance, lack of commitment or disloyalty from any political appointee.

Yusuf urged members of the State Executive Council and other aides to renew their dedication to serving the people.

He said all appointees must contribute meaningfully to the administration’s development goals.

The governor, however, praised the Commissioner for Environment, Dahir Hashim, describing him as hard-working and innovative.

Yusuf noted that Hashim, despite being the youngest member of the State Executive Council, had shown strong commitment, creativity and performance.

He said the commissioner had helped promote government programmes and improve communication between the administration and the public.

Yusuf reaffirmed his commitment to recognising and rewarding outstanding performance in public service.
