REV. Fr. Jude Akinwale, the Catholic priest in charge of St. Augustine Catholic Church, Ilara-Epe, Lagos State, on Sunday admonished Nigerians to make forgiveness a culture in order to retain the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Akinwale, who celebrated the Mass for Pentecost Sunday, gave the admonition to encourage people to live in accordance with the dictates of the Holy Spirit and to foster peace in society.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Nigerian Christians on Sunday joined their counterparts across the world to mark the Feast of the Holy Spirit.

Pentecost Sunday marks the manifestation or descent of the Holy Spirit on the apostles and, by extension, on Christians to carry out the works of the Gospel.

The event featured the anointing of tools of evangelism and the commissioning of people for gospel propagation aimed at reforming lives.

Speaking at the event dubbed “Holy Ghost Manifestation”, Akinwale said that the gift of the Holy Spirit connotes peace and stewardship.

He stressed that the Spirit of God is made available to enable people to conduct human affairs with harmony and forgiveness of wrongdoings in order to pave the way for inner peace.

According to him, forgiveness of one another’s transgressions gives room for salvation and better coexistence with others.

“The world today would be a lot better if people made forgiveness a culture and embraced stewardship in all facets of human conduct.

“As witnesses to the great commission of Jesus Christ, the Spirit, otherwise known as the Comforter, is poured upon us to renew our strength to take the Good News to every corner of the earth,” he said.

The priest described Nigeria as a project for divine intervention through faithful prayers ahead of the forthcoming general elections and amid its security challenges, urging Christians not to relent in praying for a better transition in the country(NAN)
