The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) have strengthened opposition collaboration ahead of the 2027 general elections with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The signing ceremony took place at the PDP South-West Secretariat and attracted party leaders, political stakeholders, supporters and governorship aspirants from both parties.
The development comes amid ongoing coalition discussions among opposition parties seeking to strengthen their political structures ahead of the next general elections.
The alliance is also aimed at building a stronger opposition front against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State attended the event alongside the National Chairman of the APM, Yusuf Dantalle.
Both leaders signed the agreement on behalf of their respective parties.
At the ceremony, Seyi Bamidele signed the MoU on behalf of the PDP, while Oladele Oyadeji signed for the APM.
Meanwhile, after the signing of the MoU, Makinde officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election under the platform of the APM.
He also unveiled the Reset Nigeria Movement and a dedicated campaign website to drive nationwide mobilisation.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that Governor Makinde made the declaration at a mega rally held on Thursday at the Mapo Hall in Ibadan, the state capital.
Speaking at the rally in Ibadan on Thursday where he made the official declaration, Makinde said, “Nigeria can not continue with politics as usual. This is the time to reset our nation, rebuild public trust, strengthen institutions and create a system that works for all Nigerians.”
According to him, the Reset Nigeria project is focused on economic growth, job creation, education, healthcare, infrastructure development, power sector reforms, security and institutional strengthening.
He stressed that Nigeria needs competent and accountable leadership capable of restoring public trust.
Makinde also unveiled a campaign website alongside a media resource centre where official statements, campaign materials and other information can be obtained by the public.
The Governor described the APM as a formidable third force for Nigerians who are tired of the status quo.
