The Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, Sam Amadi, has described the resignation of former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, from the All Progressives Congress (APC), as a setback for the party.
PrimeTimes Nigeria recalls that Omo-Agege dumped APC on Wednesday, a few days after losing the Delta Central APC Senate primary.
Omo-Agege said his decision to dump the ruling party followed recent developments within the APC in Delta State and consultations with his political associates and supporters.
He stated that his political aspirations and his constituents’ interests would be better pursued outside the ruling party.
Expressing appreciation to the APC for the opportunity to serve as Deputy President of the 9th Senate, Omo-Agege stresses that he remains committed to pursuing development and effective representation for Delta Central, Delta State and the country.
Reacting to the development, Amadi, during an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Morning Show’ on Thursday, said Omo-Agege is a very strong politician and likely to win the nomination of any party he decides to join.
He said, “I think if Omo-Agege goes to any of the parties, he will definitely win the nomination because he’s a very strong politician.
“This represents a significant loss for the APC. The ruling party in Delta State has suffered a setback.
“He is likely to emerge as a strong opposition force against the APC because, before 2023, he had built a strong political network as Deputy Senate President.”
