The Labour Party’s (LP) 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, alongside the National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and former Governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson, visited former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso at his Maitama residence in Abuja on Friday night.
This was disclosed in a statement issued to journalists by Kwankwaso’s media aide, Hon. Saifullahi Hassan.
According to the statement, “the political figures held discussions on political developments in the country.” Specific details of their deliberations were, however, not made public.
Among those who received the visitors alongside Kwankwaso were the former Kano State Deputy Governor, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna; the Senator representing Kano Central, Rufa’i Sani Hanga; prominent NNPP chieftain, Buba Galadima; and the Member of the House of Representatives for the Kura, Madobi and Garun Malam Federal Constituency, Yusuf Datti Kura
Several other key figures within the Kwankwasiyya movement were also in attendance.

The meeting has since further fuelled speculation regarding ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Political analysts suggest this visit could signal alliance talks involving Obi and Kwankwaso regarding a potential joint presidential ticket.
The former governors recently defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the NDC, with the stated aim of unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu.
Earlier, the NDC’s National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas, announced the party’s inaugural national convention.
A statement shared via the party’s official X (formerly Twitter) account read: “The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) welcomes all delegates to its inaugural national convention, holding on Saturday, 9th May 2026, at the Los Angeles Event Centre, Ahmadu Bello Way, FCT Abuja, at 10:00 a.m.”
