Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has berated Nigerians for their actions regarding tax payments.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that Wike spoke on Wednesday while inspecting road projects in the FCT.
According to the former Governor of Rivers State, Nigerians do not like paying taxes but want to enjoy good infrastructure.
He said, “I’m not trying to defend AMAC when it comes to the issue of tax, Nigerians don’t like to pay tax but they can call you all sorts of names when it has to do with taxes.
“However, nobody has given us such a report, if we have such a report we will call AMAC to order because there must be a civilized way to collect taxes.
“But knowing what we experienced too about payment of taxes, it would be difficult for me to say that they are right.
“Nigerians want good infrastructure but don’t want to pay tax. They want everything free in this country.”
Meanwhile, Wike has reacted to comments surrounding his recent visit to the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, saying he does not believe in treating political opponents like enemies.
He explained that his meeting with the APC chairman was a personal visit and not a political gathering, as some people had suggested.
The minister said there was no reason for him to publicly explain every private interaction or friendship he has with people, especially when such relationships existed before his current political position.
According to him, politics should not stop people from maintaining cordial relationships. He questioned the idea that members of different political parties must avoid each other because of political differences.
