NIGERIA Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced major reductions in nomination and expression of interest fees for women, youths and persons living with disabilities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party said the move was part of its commitment to ensuring inclusive participation in Nigeria’s democratic process and encouraging broader representation in elective positions.
In a statement signed by the party’s National Secretary, Barr. Ikenna Morgan Enekweizu, the NDC said young people, women and persons living with disabilities should not be excluded from governance because of financial or physical limitations.
“The fact that someone is young and may not be a money bag or is disadvantaged by some physical disabilities should not shut him or her from contributing their quota to nation-building,” the statement said.
The party noted that women had continued to face cultural and structural barriers limiting their participation in politics and democratic governance.
According to the statement, affirmative measures became necessary to encourage greater involvement of women in the electoral process.
The NDC said excluding women, who constitute nearly half of Nigeria’s population, from active political participation would amount to short-changing the nation’s democratic development.
It announced that all female aspirants on the platform of the party would pay 50 per cent of the approved fees for both expression of interest and nomination forms.
The party also granted a 50 per cent reduction to aspirants between the ages of 18 and 35 years.
Persons living with disabilities, according to the statement, are to pay only 25 per cent of the advertised fees for the forms.
The party explained that presidential, governorship and National Assembly forms would be obtained at its national secretariat in Abuja.
It added that forms for State Houses of Assembly positions would be collected from the party’s state offices across the country.
The NDC reaffirmed its resolve to carry along Nigerians at home and in the Diaspora in its political activities and democratic engagement.
