Gov. Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau has charged the Church in the state on the need for internal evangelism as a tool for revival and salvation of the youths.
Mutfwang gave the Charge on Sunday in Jos during a message at the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) Headquarters Church where he was a guest.
While reminding congregants on the recent security events in the state, the governor observed that Christian youths had become morally bankrupt, hence the need for parents and the Church to revive internal evangelism as a means to salvage the Church.
“I want to thank you sincerely for your prayers. The times are challenging, the times are not easy, I know that we are dealing with issues of insecurity.
“As we continue to contain the onslaught of those who come from outside to attack us, may God give us wisdom to know that internally, we need to put our house in order.
“We have been battling with a situation in Mangu since Friday where some young men went for mining and they were attacked and killed, and that set a chain of events that led to the blockade of the highway through Mangu.
“I want to draw the attention of the Church on the plateau, we need to sit up, we are losing a very serious battle, there is a serious disconnect between the young people and the Church.
“The young people are no longer listening to Church leaders, and the report I got from Mangu on that day was very disheartening.
“Many of our boys were either intoxicated or confused by drugs, but the worrisome part of it is that many of them were openly displaying charms, which means that the Church has clicked into syncretism.
“The Church has gone back to its vomit, and we need to do something quickly, we need to re-evangelise the Church, we must step up,” the governor admonished.
Mutfwang, who expressed worry over the increasing societal ills such as child trafficking and drug addiction in the state, advocated renewal of faith through fellowships and intensified evangelism.
“There are battles we can not afford to lose, and the Church must be in the vanguard of taking the battle to the gates of the enemy.
“The instruction in the Great Commission is “Go Ye”, we must go look after them, we must fight these battles of ignorance, of drug addiction, of poverty, and we will continue to trust God for wisdom to deal with the external threat.
“But we must not lose the internal battle because our hands are weakened,” he said.
Earlier, in his sermon, Rev. Job Bagat, ECWA President, noted that Plateau was strategically positioned, hence the attacks on it.
While reiterating the need for constant evangelism and the training of pastors to ensure the sound growth of the Church, Bagat urged the Church to remain steadfast in advancing the gospel of Christ.
“The Church in Nigeria looks up to Plateau, and every sensible child of God must back that agenda, we cannot sit back and watch the enemy mess up the Church, We are a voice that should be heard internationally,” Bagat said. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
