Former Senaate President, Bukola Saraki, and other leaders of the Nyesom Wike-backed faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have adopted Kale Kawu as the party’s consesus candidate for the 2027 Preidential Election.
Ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial electionfs, the leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has officially announced Engr. Kale Kawu as the party’s consensus flagbearer.
Saraki and the other PDP leaders made the declaration on Saturday via a statement.
In what was considered an end to weeks of speculation regarding the party’s ticket, the ex-Kwara state governor said the emergence of Engr. Kawu was the product of high-level dialogue and strategic alignment within the party’s ranks.
”I am pleased to announce that, after extensive consultations with stakeholders of the Kwara PDP and our leading gubernatorial aspirants, we have arrived at a consensus candidate to fly the flag of our great party in the forthcoming gubernatorial election. That candidate is Engr. Kale Kawu,” Saraki stated
The PDP leader used the opportunity to commend the sportsmanship of the other gubernatorial hopefuls who agreed to shelve their personal ambitions to back Kawu.
He noted that their decision was made in the “supreme interest of the party and the state at large,” describing their actions as a demonstration of the unity and selflessness required to secure victory at the polls.
Meanwhile, the PDP is still expected to hold its primary election to officially affirm the candidacy.
Anticipating the exercise, Saraki extended his best wishes to the party faithful, urging members, delegates, and teeming supporters to ensure a “successful, peaceful, and orderly outing at tomorrow’s gubernatorial primaries.”
According to reports, the emergence of Engr. Kale Kawu as the consensus candidate marks a pivotal step in the Kwara PDP’s strategy to present a united front and reclaim the state’s top seat in the upcoming general elections.
