The Speaker of the Katsina State House of Assembly, Nasir Daura, has been declared the winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary election for the Daura zone of Katsina State.
Daura emerged victorious in the primary election held on Monday, May 18, 2026, after defeating his closest challenger, Ahmed Kabir.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that the election was conducted to determine the party’s candidate for the senatorial district ahead of the forthcoming general election.
According to the result announced after the exercise, Daura polled enough votes to defeat Kabir and secure the APC ticket for the Daura senatorial zone.
His victory means he will now fly the flag of the ruling party in the senatorial contest for the zone.
The Speaker’s emergence is expected to strengthen the party’s campaign structure in the area, given his current position in the state legislature and his political influence across the zone.
The Daura senatorial zone is made up of 12 Local Government Areas in Katsina State.
They include Baure, Bindawa, Daura, Dutsi, Ingawa, Kankia, Kusada, Mai’Adua, Mani, Mashi, Sandamu, and Zango.
Daura’s victory in the primary election now places him in a key position as the APC prepares for the main senatorial election in the district.
