The reconciliation process initiated by the Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections has recorded mixed reactions, as some stakeholders embraced the initiative while others stayed away from the engagement.
The committee, set up to address grievances among aspirants and party stakeholders, has commenced meetings across federal and state constituencies in the state.
It is chaired by a former National Treasurer of the APC, Hon. Bala Muhammad Gwagwarwa, while Prof. Nura Yaro Dawakin Tofa serves as secretary. Other members include Hon. Mutari Ishaq Yakasai and a former Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Zahara’u.
PrimeTimes Nigeria understands that the panel was inaugurated to strengthen unity within the party and prevent internal disputes from weakening the APC ahead of the next election cycle.
As part of its assignment, the committee invited aspirants and stakeholders from the Doguwa/Tudun-Wada Federal Constituency, an area that has recently attracted attention due to the political rivalry between the incumbent member of the House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, and another aspirant, Salisu Yusha’u.
Doguwa attended and participated in the reconciliation meeting held at the Kano State Government House.
However, the Chairperson of Tudun-Wada Local Government and Kano State ALGON Chairperson, Hajiya Sa’adatu Salisu Yusha’u, and her husband, Salisu Yusha’u, were absent from the meeting.
Their absence has generated concern, especially as Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had earlier directed aspirants seeking elective positions under the APC platform to return to their constituencies, consult widely, and work with stakeholders towards producing consensus candidates.
Confirming the development, the committee secretary, Prof. Nura Yaro D-Tofa, and Hon. Mutari Ishaq Yakasai said Hajiya Sa’adatu and her husband did not attend the meeting.
They said the reconciliation process was still ongoing and had so far covered more than seven federal constituencies and 13 state assembly constituencies across Kano State.
According to them, the exercise has been progressing smoothly, with the committee hopeful that it will conclude its assignment successfully within a short period.
Doguwa Gets Stakeholders’ Backing
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that stakeholders from the Doguwa/Tudun-Wada Federal Constituency had earlier endorsed Doguwa to contest the 2027 election on the platform of the APC.
The endorsement was said to have been accepted by Governor Yusuf as part of efforts to reduce tension and promote consensus within the party.
The development, however, appears to have deepened political interest in the constituency, given the rivalry between Doguwa and Salisu Yusha’u.
Despite the setback, the reconciliation committee maintained that it remained committed to promoting unity, cooperation, and collective success within the APC in Kano State.
