The 2023 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewole Adebayo, has said President Bola Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima are already in political trouble because many Nigerians are unhappy with their administration.

Adebayo stated this during an interview on Trust TV while reacting to comments made by Shettima at a book launch held in honour of former Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, in Abuja on Tuesday.

PrimeTimes Nigeria recalls that Shettima had said some individuals attempted to create division between him and Tinubu barely three months after the administration assumed office.

Reacting to Shettima’s remarks, Adebayo said he was pleased that the President and Vice-President appeared to maintain a good working relationship.

He, however, said their unity would not remove the dissatisfaction many Nigerians allegedly feel over the hardship in the country.

“Well, I’m happy that the ‘number one’ citizen and ‘number two’ citizen like each other and there’s no rift between them,” Adebayo said.

“I encourage them to bond together because they are already in trouble. There’s a fight between them and Nigerian people. Nigerians are not happy with them because of the suffering people are going through under their administration.”

The SDP chieftain said it would be damaging for the President and Vice-President to be locked in an internal political battle at a time their government was already facing public criticism.

He described both leaders as under-performing and urged them to devote their remaining time in office to governance.

“So, it will be double jeopardy if the two under-performing leaders are not having peace between themselves. Since they have trouble with the Nigerian public, they should not worsen it by sparing time to fight,” he added.

Adebayo further claimed that Nigerians would vote out the administration in the next election if the government failed to address the economic hardship and other challenges facing citizens.

He said Tinubu and Shettima should use the remaining period before the next election to do what he described as good work.

“They have just a few months before Nigerians kick them out. So they should use that time to do good work,” Adebayo said.
