Popular Nigerian television host, Frank Edoho, has revealed his salary structure in his early days of anchoring the Nigerian edition of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire (WWTBAM).
As against the expectation of most audience, Edoho disclosed earning about N100,000 per month in the first two years of hosting the show.
The media personality made this known during a business seminar in Lagos on Monday.
Recalling his experience in a video clip of the event shared on his Instagram handle, Edoho said he was placed on a modest salary in the first two years but had to put on a show and a lifestyle depicting high-profile TV personality.
“In my first two years, my salary per month was 100 and something thousand Naira.
“But I had to wear suit an act as if I own all the money.” He said.
Edoho revealed that his breakthrough came when telecommunication giant, MTN, offered to sponsor the programme.
This led to his request for an improved salary structure while also opening other doors of opporunities for him.
“But when MTN came on, I just said let m just give a figure to my boss, the owner of the show. Once I mentioned the figure, he said okay we will give you three months back pay.
“The reward came in. I was hosting events all over the place. I was flying and doing all kinds of things.
Meanwhile, Edoho revealed that beyond his financial journey, he faced personal challenges which he overcame by staying focused, learning to manage difficulties, and maintaining a clear vision of one’s goals.
“Although my life had some ups and downs… learn how to compartmentalise and just push it aside, concentrate your eyes on the prize and you will get there,” he said.
Edoho left WWTBAM in September 2017 after hosting the show for 13 glamorous years since its commencement in 2004.
In an interview years after his exit, the TV host cited breakdown in a contract negotiation that would have seen him rise to the position of executive producer as the reason behind his resignation from the role.
Edoho would however return as the host of the show in 2022 which ran for 52 weeks under a new sponsor.
