Chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has expressed disappointment over what he described as political betrayal by Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf and some other trusted allies.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that Kwankwaso made this known during an interview with Trust TV held at his Kano residence on Sunday while speaking on issues of political betrayal, insecurity, education, and past political confrontations.
Responding to a question about comments attributed to Yusuf on political defections, Kwankwaso said he never expected the betrayal because he had trusted the Governor.
Kwankwaso, who spoke in a Hausa proverb, said, “ina ruwan jaka da inda aka ajiye ta,” meaning; ‘A bag has no choice of where it is kept.
“I never expected betrayal from him. I gave my final trust, but today you can all see where it has led us.”
The former presidential candidate also criticised some beneficiaries of his administration’s educational policies, saying some of those sponsored for studies later turned against the political movement that supported them.
He stated, “Some of the people we sponsored in school were very young then, but today they are the ones speaking against us. I’m happy many of them have now kept quiet.”
Speaking on the single-term promise of former Governor, Peter Obi, Kwankwaso said, “We have an agreement with Peter Obi that he would serve for only one term, but if he later says he would go for a second term. Let him continue, we know how to handle that.”
Kwankwaso also linked terrorism and violent crimes in some states to poor investment in education.
He added, “If you look at states battling insecurity and terrorism, many of them have failed to pay proper attention to education as we did during our term in Kano.”
