Gwarzo, Ganduje Storm Abuja, Visits Shettima

Kashim Shettima

One of the aspirants challenging Deputy Senate President Barau I. Jibrin for the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 election, Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo, has opened up about a meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima.

PrimeTimes Nigeria understands that he, alongside former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and the Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Abubakar Kabir Bichi, met with Shettima in Abuja on Monday.

Speaking on the development via his Facebook page, Gwarzo said the discussions centered on politics and the affairs of Kano North.

‎According to him, the Vice President wished them success and prosperity in their political journey.

‎The visit comes against the backdrop of Gwarzo’s recent declaration to contest the Kano North Senatorial seat currently occupied by Deputy Senate President, Jibrin.

‎Gwarzo, the immediate past Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development and ex-Deputy Governor of Kano, purchased the APC nomination forms last month, vowing to provide “credible representation” for the zone.

‎His entry into the race has heightened intra-party tension, with reports of moves to block his candidacy ahead of the APC primaries scheduled for May 18.

‎Gwarzo has alleged that Senator Barau orchestrated his disqualification in a previous primary and insists he would not withdraw this time.

‎It is believed that the visit signals an attempt to consolidate support within the APC hierarchy and strengthen his position ahead of the primaries.

‎Ganduje and Bichi are seen as influential figures whose backing could bolster Gwarzo’s chances.
