Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has approved the conversion of the Adamawa State Specialist Hospital in Yola to the Adamawa State University Teaching Hospital in a move aimed at improving medical education and specialised healthcare delivery in the state.
Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Awwal Tukur, announced the approval while inaugurating the conversion committee.
The decision followed request by the management of the University for the establishment of a clinical training facility for medical students within the state.
Barrister Tukur noted that the approval would reduce dependence on teaching hospitals outside Adamawa and further strengthen healthcare services, medical research and manpower development in the state.
Vice Chancellor of Adamawa State University, Prof. Augustine Clement, described the inauguration of the committee as a major milestone in the institution’s development.
The committee members are mandated to work out modalities for the smooth transition of the facility to a teaching hospital, ahead of the 2026/2027 academic session.
Also speaking, the Chief Medical Director of Specialist Hospital Yola, Dr Dauda Wadinga, and the Acting Provost of the Adamawa State College of Medicine and Health Sciences, Professor Michael Misauno, commended Governor Fintiri for the approval and pledged their commitment to ensuring the successful implementation of the project.
