Filing pre-election matters: Federal High Court directs Registries to open at weekends, public holidays

In order to meet up with the limited time stipulated for the hearing of Pre-election matters, the Federal High Court of Nigeria has directed all Registries in all the judicial divisions to open between 10.00 am and 2.00 pm on weekends and public holidays for the filing of only Pre-election matters by lawyers.

In a circular dated May 28, 2026 and signed by the Chief Registrar of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, Yahaya Yakubu Shafa, FCArb., all legal practitioners and the general public are notified to make use of the window provided by the court to file their pre-election matters.

The circular reads: Notice To Lawyers And The General Public

“The Federal High Court of Nigeria formally notifies all legal practitioners that Registries in all Divisions of the Federal High Court would be open between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm Weekends and Public Holidays for Filing of Pre-Election Matters Only.

“This has become expedient to meet up with the limited time frame for filing Pre-election matters”.
