A former commissioner in the administration of ex-Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, Jafaru Ibrahim Sani, has declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Kaduna State under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that Sani, who served as Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs before later heading the Ministry of Education during the El-Rufai administration, has also picked up the party’s nomination forms for the governorship race.
The former commissioner confirmed his ambition in a brief WhatsApp response to enquiries by our correspondent.
“We are trying to be among the contenders. Allah yayi mana jagora (May Allah guide us),” he stated.
Sani’s declaration adds to the growing list of aspirants seeking the ADC governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections in Kaduna State.
On Wednesday, the former commissioner was sighted alongside other governorship hopefuls during a meeting where party stakeholders and aspirants reportedly agreed to work together to ensure victory for the ADC in the next election cycle.
The meeting was said to have focused on strengthening unity within the party and building a formidable opposition platform ahead of the polls.
Other prominent contenders in the ADC governorship race include Isah Ashiru Kudan, who was the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 2023 elections.
Also in the race are Muhammad Sani Bello, Shuaibu Idris Mikati and Tijjani Ahmad.
