The African Democratic Congress (ADC) faction led by its 2023 presidential candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, has adopted him as its sole presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that Kachikwu’s adoption was announced on Sunday during the faction’s national convention held at A-Class, Abuja.
The Electoral Committee Chairman and Benue State chairman of the party, Elias Adikwu, announced the adoption, which was ratified by delegates at the convention.
The newly elected National Chairman of the faction, Abdulkadir Mohammed Bashir, presented Kachikwu with the party’s flag.
The flag was presented as a symbol of his mandate to lead the faction into the 2027 election.
At the convention, the faction also elected new members of its National Working Committee.
Those elected include Kingsley Oggah as Board of Trustees chairman; Johnny Tovie Derek as Deputy National Chairman; Kennedy O. Odion as National Secretary; Dr Joe Aroh as National Treasurer; Chief Amirigoye as National Financial Secretary; and Dr Chris Ugwu as National Legal Adviser.
Others are Elias Adikwu, National Organising Secretary, and Patrick Ambut, National Chief Whip.
The development followed the Senator David Mark-led ADC’s national convention in Abuja on April 14, 2026.
At that convention, delegates amended the party’s constitution and elected the former Senate President as substantive National Chairman.
Over 1,000 delegates reportedly voted to ratify the amendments and confirm Mark as leader of the National Working Committee.
The Mark-led faction also expelled factional chairman, Nafiu Bala, alongside Rep. Leke Abejide and others, over alleged anti-party activities.
The faction accused them of taking internal party disputes to court.
