President Bola Tinubu has commended the All Progressives Congress (APC) for conducting credible and orderly primaries across Nigeria, describing the exercise as a shining example of internal democracy and grassroots participation within the ruling party.
The President made the remarks on Saturday after casting his vote at the APC Presidential Primaries held at Ikoyi-Obalende Ward L2 in Lagos. He arrived at the polling centre accompanied by his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and was warmly received by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos APC Chairman Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment Dr Jumoke Oduwole, and former Minister of Finance Wale Edun, among other senior party leaders.
President Tinubu praised party members for their discipline and commitment to democratic principles. “This is a demonstration of internal democracy, and it has been going on very well according to plan,” he said.
“This is grassroots politics where every member of the party has the right to participate. It shows that we have internal democracy and it’s peaceful and well organised.”
The President expressed satisfaction with the performance of governors across the country in managing the various stages of the primaries, from ward congresses to local government levels, delegate accreditation, membership registration, and certification of the electoral process. He noted that these steps had elevated the standard of democracy within the party.
He further reiterated the APC’s dedication to transparent and inclusive processes that empower ordinary party members to select their leaders.
President Tinubu commended electoral officials, party leaders, and security agencies for ensuring a peaceful and credible exercise nationwide.
