An Ibadan chief, Oloye Adegboyega Adegoke, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Adegoke, who is the Aare Egbe Omo Balogun of Ibadanland, was declared the winner of the party’s governorship primary after polling 16,051 votes to defeat four other aspirants.
The result was announced by the Chairman of the ADC Primary Election Committee, Hon. Rasak Salinsile, after the completion of the exercise conducted in the state.
According to the result announced by Salinsile, Adegoke defeated Chief Bisi Ilaka, who came second with 11,415 votes.
Other aspirants in the race were Chief Gbemilade Alagbe, who polled 241 votes; Dr Azeez Adeduntan, who scored 155 votes; and Barrister Niyi Aborishade, who secured 67 votes.
Salinsile explained that the delay in announcing the result was due to Oyo State’s large size, adding that results from some parts of the state were only received on Saturday afternoon.
In his acceptance speech, Adegoke promised to run an inclusive campaign and work with the other aspirants in the interest of the party.
He said the ADC would need unity and collective effort to win the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
Adegoke said, “I am ready to work with everybody. We will work together. We will brainstorm together for the betterment of Oyo State.
“I will bring incremental development to Oyo State. Where the present government stops, that is where we will start.”
Meanwhile, the ADC Electoral Committee also announced the successful conclusion of the party’s House of Assembly, House of Representatives and Senatorial District primary elections in the state.
The exercise was conducted at the ADC State Secretariat, Iyaganku GRA, Ibadan.
The announcement was made by Salinsile and witnessed by the Oyo State ADC Chairman-elect, Rt. Hon. Afees Jimoh.
Salinsile said the committee was mandated by the national leadership of the party to conduct a transparent, credible and democratic primary process across Oyo State.
He added that following the successful conduct of the primaries, candidates emerged for the 32 House of Assembly constituencies, 14 House of Representatives federal constituencies and the three senatorial districts in the state.
According to him, the exercise was conducted in line with the party’s guidelines and reflected the commitment of the ADC to internal democracy, fairness and inclusiveness.
He said delegates and party stakeholders across the state participated actively in the process, leading to the emergence of candidates who would represent the party in the forthcoming general elections.
The Electoral Committee responsible for the conduct and supervision of the primaries was chaired by Alhaji Razaq Salinsile, while Hon. Kunle Ige served as Secretary.
Other members of the committee were Alhaja Kafilat Omolabake, Mr. Remi Abidogun, Mr. Adekola Adeoye, Barrister Taiwo Paul Oladipupo, Mr. Rotimi Johnson, Mr. Raji Musediq, Abayomi Bayode, Fatai Issa Akanmu and Mr. Ojekunle Alabi.
The party announced three senatorial candidates for the state.
They are Hon. Kamil Akinlabi Mudashiru for Oyo Central, Sule Kabiru Ayinde for Oyo North and Mrs. Tanimowo Modupe Grace for Oyo South.
House Of Representatives Candidates
For the House of Representatives, the candidates announced include Architect Lawal Basiru for Atisbo/Saki East/Saki West; Olusogo Akinyemi Akinpelu for Egbeda/Ona Ara; Hon. Daudu Akani Olalere for Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West; Gbadamosi Mumeen Abolaji for Ibarapa East/Ido; Akinkunmi Muhammad for Ogo-Oluwa/Surulere; Ogunsola Olutokunbo Olutomi for Oluyole; and Oyelade Babatunde Akanbi for Ogbomoso North/Ogbomoso South/Oriire.
Others are Hon. Omidiji Julius Adesola for Irepo/Orelope/Olorunsogo; Engineer Hamid Adekunle Adebayo for Afijio/Atiba/Oyo East/Oyo West; Fashola E. Olubowale for Ibadan North-East/Ibadan South-East; Sarafa Ife Olayemi for Ibarapa Central/Ibarapa North; Adekunle Ameerah Itunu for Ibadan North; Adedokun James Seun for Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa; and Ojetayo Okikiola Ayoade for Akinyele/Lagelu.
House Of Assembly Candidates
The party also announced its House of Assembly flagbearers for the 2027 elections.
They include Ojedokun Adetayo Jacob for Afijio; Alagbe John Olusegun for Akinyele I; Hammed Olalekan Adekunle for Akinyele II; Salawu Jelili Olatunji for Atiba; Adeniran Moses Adewale for Atisbo; Shittu Ajibola Sunday for Egbeda; Ali Sekinat Adejumoke for Ibadan North I; and Egbeyemi Hakeem A. Oriyomi for Ibadan North II.
Others are Adesina Olanrewaju Peter for Ibadan North East II; Adelowo Aremu Ademola for Ibadan North East I; Oladeji Arisekola Labosinde for Ibadan South-East I; Azeez Kazeem Adekunle for Ibadan South-East II; Apanpa Kehinde Yisa for Ibadan South-West I; Owoseni Ebenezer Ayodeji for Ibadan South-West II; Adenike Suliat Yusuf for Ido; Nasiru Ibrahim Adeniyi for Irepo/Olorunsogo; and Adebisi Mumuni Bolaji for Iwajowa.
The list also includes Naheen Olaore Oladimeji for Lagelu; Adelowo Adeoye for Ogbomoso South; Dolapo Adelana for Oluyole; Adebayo Adedeji Adewale Idris for Ona Ara; Adeyinka Kafayat Ronke for Oyo East/Oyo West; Abdul Hakeem Shurau for Saki West; Muinat Badmus for Ibarapa East/Central; Oseni Farouq Abiodun for Ibarapa East; Tijani Isiaka Adebowale for Kajola; Christopher Oladunni Gbadamosi for Ogbomoso North; Jamiu Raheem for Oriire; Deleru Moses Tobi for Iseyin; Owolabi Samson Akanbi for Oorelope; and Ayoola Joseph Kolawole for Ogo-Oluwa/Surulere.
Meanwhile, the candidate for Ibadan North West is to be announced later by the party.
