A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has picked Dumebi Kachikwu as its presidential candidate as the party prepares for its presidential primaries scheduled for Monday.

The development comes as the ADC called on all aspirants, party leaders, delegates, and supporters to maintain unity, discipline, and democratic conduct throughout the exercise.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, described the upcoming primaries as a defining moment for both the party and Nigerians seeking a credible political alternative.

According to Abdullahi, the ADC prides itself on being the only truly democratic political party in Nigeria because its presidential candidate emerges through an open primary process.

The party stressed that the conduct of members before, during, and after the primaries would reflect the leadership culture the ADC hopes to build in the country.

Abdullahi urged all stakeholders to act peacefully and responsibly during the process.

“We therefore urge all aspirants, their supporters, delegates, and party faithful to conduct themselves peacefully, responsibly, and with dignity throughout the process,” he stated.

He added that while disagreements and contests are natural in democratic systems, the broader goal of rebuilding Nigeria and restoring public confidence in leadership should remain the party’s priority.

“At the end of this exercise, there will be no winners or losers within the ADC family. The ultimate objective is to emerge stronger, more united, and fully prepared to offer Nigerians the competent and credible leadership they deserve,” Abdullahi added.

The ADC also assured members that adequate measures had been put in place to guarantee a free, fair, transparent, and credible primary election.

The party further called on members nationwide to rise above divisions and contribute positively to what it described as a historic moment for the party.

“History will judge us, not merely by who emerges as candidate, but by how we conduct ourselves in this defining moment,” the statement concluded.
