Talent manager Ubi Franklin has revealed why men are scared of court marriages.
On his Twitter page, he claimed that most men are scared of legally getting married due to the fear of losing everything during divorce. He said they have this erroneous fixation that in the event of a divorce, property will be split in half.
Ubi said such a statement isn’t legally true, as even in customary marriages, if one of the partners meets the conditions for alimony (money), the Court will grant it.
He added that another reason men are afraid of going to is the inability to retrieve gifts given to their spouse, unless certain conditions accompany those gifts.
“Many men are scared of ‘Court Marriage’ because they have this erroneous fixation that in the event of divorce, property will be shared 50 – 50 ( not legally true)
Even in customary marriages, when one of the spouses (whether male or female) meets the conditions for alimony (money), the Court will grant it.
Secondly, if you give your spouse/girlfriend/ husband, or boyfriend a gift, you cannot recover it in the event of separation, unless it is accompanied by certain conditions.
Sometimes buy the gift in your own name or attach conditions to it”.
A while back, Franklin had broken down on social media over his silent battles. He said he was overwhelmed with feelings of loss and sadness, as life had thrown some tough challenges his way. He noted that when false accusations are thrown at him, people tell him to brush them off, but they only take a toll on him, and now he has reached his breaking point.
Last year was a tough one for Ubi, who lost his elder sister. He revealed that his sister birthed the Ubi Franklin the public knows and opened his eyes to what life truly is. He described the deceased as one of the kindest souls he had ever known and expressed his gratitude for having called her his sister.
To worsen it, Ubi Franklin was accused of stealing a luxury watch at Davido’s white wedding in Miami.
Reacting to the allegations, Ubi described the report as false and misleading. Explaining the event, he described the situation as “an extremely difficult and sensitive time” for him and his family, adding that this would be his final comment.
Not done, he claimed he knew the person who fabricated the story and questioned why people love to hate and spread false information.
