Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a suspected informant linked to Boko Haram and the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) at the Muhammadu Buhari International Cargo Airport in Yobe State.
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that security sources who spoke with Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, disclosed that the suspect was apprehended around 5:30 am on April 23 by troops of Sector 2 deployed at the airport.
According to the sources, the individual was spotted acting suspiciously near a military location before being taken into custody.
The sources added that the suspect declined to provide useful information when questioned at the point of arrest.
He was subsequently transferred to a military intelligence unit for further interrogation.
While noting that the general security situation across the theatre remains relatively calm, the sources warned that it is still unpredictable.
They, however, stated that troops’ morale and combat efficiency remain high.
The latest development comes weeks after troops arrested two other individuals suspected of acting as informants for Boko Haram/ISWAP in the Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.
In other news, gunmen have reportedly killed five persons, including a traditional ruler, his wife, son, and two other residents, in Olegabulu community, Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.
Residents said the incident occurred on Thursday night when the assailants stormed the community on two motorcycles.
A source, who spoke on condition of anonymity with Daily Trust, disclosed that four attackers carried out the operation, heading straight to the monarch’s residence.
According to him, the gunmen opened fire on the traditional ruler and members of his household.
