Troops of Sector 2 of Operation Whirl Stroke have arrested a man allegedly impersonating a soldier and operating an illegal checkpoint in Obi Local Government Area.
Security sources said the suspect was apprehended at about 5:40 p.m. on April 27 in the Iyorugwa community following credible intelligence.
According to the sources, the individual had been extorting money from members of the public while posing as military personnel and mounting an unauthorised checkpoint in the area.
Items recovered from him include a camouflage jacket, two waist belts and other materials believed to have been used in the impersonation.
The suspect, along with the recovered items, is currently in military custody as investigations continue and further action is expected.
