President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr. Fatima Suleiman Zuntu as the new Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA).
PrimeTimes Nigeria reports that her appointment will run for an initial period of four years. The decision is in line with the National Biosafety Management Agency Act of 2015, which guides how leadership changes are made in the agency.
A statement from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, released by the Head of Information and Public Relations, Chris Ugwuegbulam, confirmed the appointment. It explained that Dr. Zuntu has strong experience in public health work and policy development.
The statement also noted that she has been involved in programmes that have had wide impact across the country, especially in the health sector and public service delivery. It added that her background places her in a good position to manage the responsibilities of the agency.
President Tinubu asked her to use her knowledge and experience to support the goals of the agency and contribute to national growth through her work.
The National Biosafety Management Agency is in charge of regulating modern biotechnology in Nigeria. It also ensures that the use of biotechnology does not put human health or the environment at risk.
