President Bola Tinubu has reconstituted the governing council of the Nigeria Police Academy in Wudil, Kano State, naming Minister of Police Affairs Senator Ibrahim Gaidam as chairman of the 16-member body.
The reconstituted council draws membership from key federal institutions, with the chairman of the Police Service Commission, the Inspector-General of Police, and representatives of the Federal Ministries of Education, Finance, and Justice all included in its composition.
Six persons have been appointed to represent the country’s geopolitical zones on the council. They are Babagana Zannah Adam, a retired Deputy Commissioner of Police, representing the North East; Emmanuel Torkuma Manger for the North Central; retired Deputy Inspector-General of Police Maigari Abati Dikko for the North West; Dubem A. Obaze for the South East; Ajibogere Toyin for the South West; and retired DIG Udom Udo Ekpoudom for the South South.
The Commandant of the Academy, its Provost, and the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of training will serve on the council in an ex officio capacity, while the Academy’s registrar will act as secretary to the body.
The Nigeria Police Academy, established to provide degree-level education and professional training for police officers, has its main campus in Wudil, Kano State. The reconstitution of its governing council is expected to strengthen institutional oversight and accelerate the Academy’s mandate of building a professionally grounded police force.
The presidency announced the appointments on Sunday through a statement by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
