A heavy rainstorm has destroyed parts of newly completed school buildings at Nawarudeen Grammar School, Solu in Ifo, Ogun State, only a few months after the project was reportedly sponsored by Ogun gubernatorial candidate, Senator Solomon Adeola, known as Yayi.
A public notice which was issued on Thursday by Ifo community representatives confirmed that the storm caused serious damage to the recently commissioned structures.
The notice maintained that the destruction happened shortly after the completion of the project meant to improve learning in the area.
“It is with deep sadness that we inform the general public that the heavy rainstorm that occurred today in Ifo has caused severe damage to infrastructure at Nawarudeen Grammar School, Solu,” the statement said.
It was explained that the buildings were newly constructed and funded by Senator Adeola as part of efforts to support education.

The statement read, “The buildings, which were recently completed just a few months ago, were sponsored by Senator Olamilekan Solomon Adeola (YAYI) as part of efforts to improve educational facilities in the community.”
However, the rainstorm has now raised concerns about the durability of the project, as the facilities did not last long after completion.
“The storm . . . blew off the newly constructed six-classroom block and the senior school administrative building, leaving the structures badly affected,” the statement noted.
The timing of the damage has made the situation more troubling.
The buildings had only been in use for a short period, and many in the community had seen them as a major improvement in school infrastructure.
“This unfortunate incident is a huge setback to the students, staff, and the entire Ifo community who were beneficiaries of this development,” the statement said.
The damage has created worry about the quality and strength of the structures, since they failed under a single heavy storm not long after completion.
The incident has also disrupted the progress that the project was meant to bring to the school.
The community called for urgent action from relevant authorities, asking for a proper inspection of the buildings and quick repair to restore learning activities.
“We call on relevant authorities and stakeholders to urgently assess the level of damage and take swift action towards restoration, ensuring that academic activities are not disrupted for long,” the statement said.
