The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has assured members of the party that the ADC will overcome its ongoing legal challenges and participate in all elections in 2027.
Mark gave the assurance on Wednesday night in Abuja after he was briefed by the party’s legal team on the judgment of the Federal High Court, which restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising congresses conducted by committees set up by the Mark-led National Working Committee.
The ruling has raised fresh uncertainty over the party’s internal processes and preparations for the 2027 general elections, as it effectively halts official recognition of the state congresses conducted under the disputed arrangement.
Reacting to the development, Mark said the party had begun the appeal process and had also filed for a stay of execution of the judgment.
He urged members not to panic, insisting that the party remained ready to confront the legal battles within the limits of the law.
“You do not have anything to be afraid of regarding all the litigations before the party,” Mark said.
“I want to assure you that we shall triumph in all the cases, and we shall be on the ballot for every election.”
The former Senate President said the ADC leadership was fully prepared for the cases ahead and would take all lawful steps to protect the party’s interests.
“We are more than prepared and ready for these cases, and we shall do everything within the ambit of the law to surmount every situation,” he added.
Mark said although he is not a lawyer, he would provide firm leadership as the party navigates the legal disputes threatening its internal arrangements and 2027 election plans.
“In this legal battle, though I am not a lawyer, I will lead from the front, and we shall surely triumph,” he said.
Earlier, the party’s legal team briefed Mark and other members of the ADC leadership on the implications of the Federal High Court ruling and the legal strategy to be adopted in the appeal.
The development comes as the ADC continues preparations for the 2027 elections amid factional disputes and multiple court cases over its leadership and congresses.
