The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, has stressed the need for sustained collaboration among stakeholders to enhance security in Nigeria’s maritime domain.
He stated this while receiving the Chief Executive Officer of New Guard Security & Consultancy Services Limited, Major General Jamil Sarham, during a courtesy visit to the Naval Headquarters in Abuja.
Sarham said the company serves as a coordinating interface between government security agencies and Private Security Companies, with the aim of standardising operations, improving regulatory compliance and fostering synergy within the security framework.
He added that the firm has established a Project Management Office and commenced full operations, noting that ongoing engagements have reduced operational frictions between private security firms and the Armed Forces.
The NGSCL boss also commended the Nigerian Navy for its professionalism and sustained operations against crude oil theft, which he said have boosted oil production and strengthened the economy.
In his response, Abbas welcomed the initiative, noting that institutionalised collaboration remains key to tackling evolving maritime security threats.
He said areas of friction between the Navy and private security firms had been significantly reduced and assured the company of continued support in safeguarding critical national assets.
